A list is something you fill yourself. A segment is a rule that fills itself: "everyone who clicked in the last 60 days", "email addresses that bounced". You describe the group once and Genaya keeps it up to date.
A segment - the same table of people, filled by a rule instead of by hand.
Create a segment
1
Open Lists & segments
Go to Campaigns -> Audiences in the side menu and open Lists & segments. Your segments sit in the table with your lists, and the Type filter shows only them.
2
Start from the library or from scratch
Open the Segment library tab to pick a ready-made rule, or press Create and choose Segment to set your own conditions.
3
Save it
Save the segment. It fills right away, and from then on it keeps itself fresh.
The Segment library
The library groups ready-made rules by what you want to do.
Increase engagement
Engaged 30, 60, 90, 180 and 365 days - people who opened or clicked within that window.
Improve deliverability
Delivery failures (Text) and Bounced (Email) - the addresses and numbers your messages could not reach.
Understand consent
Active profiles (Email), Subscribers (Email), Implicit consent subscribers (Email), Unsubscribed profiles (Email) and Subscribers (Text).
When a segment refreshes
When you save it.
When you press its Refresh button.
Right before a campaign's first send to it, so the send uses today's people.
Once a day, automatically.
infoPeople a refresh brings in start any live flow that is watching that segment. A person who stops matching the rule leaves the segment at the next refresh.
warningYou cannot add a person to a segment by hand. To put someone in a group yourself, add them to a list instead.
warningConsent always wins. Someone who unsubscribed stays unsubscribed, even when a segment's rule would otherwise include them. Nothing you edit or send through the API re-subscribes them.
